Out of bounds, crossings, uncrossable etc.
These things are often part of the overprint (purple bits) along with the course and are not on the OCAD map file that is used for the background map in RouteGadget. So are not visible when someone is looking at routes etc.
I suggest that a version of the map file is created that includes all the overprint (purple) bits and you use this for the export to JPG/GIF that is used for the background map.
Without this info some route choices may look odd, as the viewer is not aware of that large out-of-bounds area that the competitor had to go round or a compulsory crossing point.
In OCAD
- If you are using OCAD for course planning you can just create another course and call it “Purple bits” for example.
- Then just add a text box or some other item to the course but place it off the map area you are using.
- Go to File -> Export and after you have set the parameters and clicked OK you will be asked what course to use, select “Purple bits” and save the file.
- You should now have a map with all the crossing points, out-of-bounds etc. shown.
In Condes
- In Condes create a course and name it “Purple bits” but add no controls.
- Go to Export -> Export courses to OCAD, select only the “Purple bits” course, check the scale etc. are correct for the map you are using and click Export.
- Open the created file in OCAD, select the start, finish and connecting line and delete them. You should now have all the purple bits left.
- Go to Background Map -> Open and select the OCAD map file that you used in Condes.
- You should now have a map with all the crossing points, out-of-bounds etc. shown.
- Go to File -> Export and set the parameters and click OK, save the file.
